Scream Queen- Chapter 8

Maybe it was the result of the hours of torture from the afternoon or the result from last night’s attack. But that night, the female ghost did not invade her dreams. Zhu Yang slept comfortably till dawn.

Today was the sixth day, and once midnight struck, it would become the seventh day. Which meant the female ghost was most likely to make her fatal attack.

Even though Zhu Yang, who constantly had the upper hand, felt a little unsettled.

Thus, just in case, she still prepared for the worst case scenario.

When Xie Yi came down for breakfast, he witnessed Zhu Yang detailing her will to her family.

However, her explanation was quite unique.

“Hey, Ah Xin! If I don’t call you after tomorrow, all my belongings are yours.”

Zhu WeiXin didn’t understand why his sister was being so generous. Based on her personality, he was suspicious this was a trap.

He replied quickly, “Sis, even if you say that, all your stuff is useless to me. How would I wear your clothes, bags, and shoes? Is this a test? I’ve already told you I’ve never taken anything from your room.”

Zhu Yang held her younger brother in contempt, “Stupid, they’re worth a lotof money if you resell them. Have our parents returned home recently? Don’t run around this summer. Stay home and pour some water and tea for them when they come back. Be obedient and be respectful. You have to be a filial child.”

“Also, there is a box underneath the cabinet in my room. If I don’t call you back the day after tomorrow, then help me return it back to Lu XiuCi.”

Zhu WeiXin felt that something was wrong the longer he listened to her, “Sister, why does this sound like a distribution of a will?”

Then he anxiously cried out, “Could it be that something really happened to you? In the past two days, you were looking for someone, and borrowing money. At first I thought you went on a shopping spree. But now you even dare to contact Brother Lu.”

Zhu Yang secretly cursed at her normally stupid brother for being so sharp during cirtical moments.

Quickly switching the subject, she said, “What do you mean ‘dare to’? That Lu bastard is a living human, not some poisonous snake or some other dangerous beast. Who has your sister, I, ever been scared of in my entire life?”

“But you yourself, called him a two-faced pervert and that you were blind to have trusted him. Sis, did you forget how you packed your bags and escaped overseas that year?” Zhu WeiXin pointed out.

Having the darkest moment of her life being pointed out by this fool caused Zhu Yang to feel a little embarrassed and angry, “Okay, okay. You have so much to say when I want you to do something. Anyways, in short, remember what I said and be obedient. I’ll be back for summer vacation.”

 “Sis, what if I-”

Zhu WeiXin was still speaking when his sister hung up the phone. Although she was full of energy on the phone—which didn’t detract from her usual regal self—and appeared to be fine, Zhu WeiXin got more and more worried as he replayed their conversation. He even lost interest in his plans for the rest of the day. When a friend invited him out, he declined.

When the sky darkened, his anxiety worsened. Finally Zhu WeiXin decided to ignore his sister’s demands. Even if he gets scolded, he has to make sure everything is fine. So he pulled out his phone to book a ticket.

Unfortunately, the next flight will not take off until early morning tomorrow.

On the other side, once Zhu Yang finished talking to her unlucky brother, she handed Xie Yi his payment in advance.

Although he was a fraud, she decided not to underpay him. Furthermore, she paid him more than the amount originally promised.

Xie Yi was flattered, “Oh! What are you playing at now?”

Zhu Yang sneered at him, “Just take it.”

There was no need for further explanations In spite of her previous threats, the man was a successful *spiritual* master who had the power to leave at any time. Who cared about a little naive girl like her? So she really appreciated that Xie Yi had stayed behind to support her.

Zhu Yang also didn’t want to arrange things too thoroughly, like she was actually preparing for her own death. To be honest, if the low leveled female ghost really killed her, Zhu Yang felt that she wouldn’t accept her fate and become a fierce ghost.

By the time everyone is a ghost, then she can have a fair fight. She wouldn’t accept losing to that low-leveled thing.

Yesterday’s forum post’s results had been published, and Zhu Yang happily paid the prizes.

Those who won the prizes went on the forum to show off, attracting many people’s jealousy. Although the prize money wasn’t that much, it was a pretty big deal for an ordinary student. Not to mention, the contest involved photoshopping images, which was considerably much easier than memorizing words or writing essays.

Hence, the commenters asked for similar games to keep coming.

By noon, the comments started to die down and Zhu Yang leisurely posted a message:

【Actually, that knockoff Sadako or Chu RenMei has been harassing me lately. I don’t know who got my address and phone number. They mailed the video to me, and after watching it I’ve been receiving death threats every day. Today’s already the sixth day. Even though I know it’s fake, I’m still very scared.】

Because there were some rumors floating around a few days ago, once this news was announced, the public sentiment was very accepting— even if someone didn’t like Zhu Yang, they still felt something for the cash prizes.

【This Sadako is obviously a knock off, and she’s also displaying such disgusting behavior】

【Yi~ A call a day. Isn’t this the equivalent of being harassed by a pervert?】

【Bullying a girl who lives alone? Is this person from our school? Is there such a pervert among us?】

【Isn’t this illegal? Did you call the police yet?】

There were many commenters rushing to sympathize with Zhu Yang. Although there were differing opinions, the general tone of the comments were outrage towards the female ghost.

Soon the forum news spread and the girls from the sorority and friends started to call and check up on Zhu Yang.

The previous claim of being haunted by ghosts was too absurd for anyone to believe, but being stalked and receiving weird video tapes and harassing phone calls was more believable.

Some were dissatisfied with the outcome, “So it was just a pervert? Why didn’t you make it clear from the start? Is it really worth worrying over for so long?”

(T/N: I think they’re angry that Zhu Yang didn’t announce she’s been stalked earlier but instead kept it to herself?)

“That type of person is a mouse scrambling in the sewers, only daring to act in the dark. Once they’re exposed, you’ll see they’re as worthless as shit.”

Then someone took advantage of the situation and mentioned, “Isn’t there a party tonight? Let’s all stay together and see what tricks that bastard could do.”

Everyone agreed with that statement and the atmosphere of the forum started to heat up. With a lot of people, the excitement was very contagious. Let alone a pervert, if someone claimed that ghosts were real, the crowd would go ghost hunting.

Zhu Yang pretended to object, “Is this a good idea? Although hunting the supernatural seems fun, there are too many uncertain factors, making this situation dangerous. I should postpone the party until I find a solution–”

She didn’t even have time to finish before everyone started objecting. They all emphasized that it must be tonight. They have seen all sorts of things at parties, and this was the first time a “ghost” would appear.

Since the whole situation has escalated to this point, you, Zhu Yang, as the host, must not disappoint us.

Zhu Yang profusely thanked them before hanging up and phoning the nearby market to order a batch of wine.

Xie Yi licked his lips at the sight of the wine, “Aren’t you taking advantage of the crowd to stop the female ghost from coming out? Why are you buying so much wine then? If they’re all drunk and knocked out, isn’t it a prime time for the female ghost to kill you?”

Zhu Yang waved off his concern, “This is a very particular wine. It boosts the drinkers’ courage, but it won’t let them pass out. Don’t worry, I have experience in this.”

Xie Yi still wasn’t sure of her plan, “While it is true that the best way to deal with ghosts is to expose yourself to a crowded area, but even if the female ghost may not succeed today, she can always strike some other time. You can’t just depend on this strategy for the rest of your life.”

Zhu Yang sneered, “I’ve never thought of protecting myself with that crude method. I’ve already said I was going to kill her, and today would be her vanquishing day. Are you doubting my capabilities?”

Xie Yi was silent for a while before shooting her a thumbs up, “Bold. Big sister you are a real man.”

Zhu Yang unraveled Xi Yi’s fist, “You’ll be of great use tonight, my poor child. When the time comes, act a little clever and watch how I get things done.”

As Xie Yi was about to ask when they had such a tacit understanding with one another, a few guests had arrived.

They were Xie XiaoMeng and Zhu LiNa, the only ones who were truly aware about Zhu Yang’s situation. The two girls were both frightened and in awe at Zhu Yang’s plan.

When Zhu Yang saw that they both arrived, she felt very satisfied. Even the two who knew there was a real ghost dared to show up, that meant others would show up too.

As soon as the two stepped in the house, they were ordered to bring out the snacks. The alcohol was also arrived.

Once all the sorority members arrived, the place was quickly decorated, and the other guests started to show up one after another.

Even in this situation, Zhu Yang’s invitation list still had a threshold on who can come.

Xie Yi looked down at the sea of people and exclaimed in amazement, “Wow, this… this is a room full of high class men and women! The ambience is so high-spirited. I’ve experienced parties hosted by the entertainment companies for their trainees, and it’s nothing like this!”

Xie XiaoMeng rolled her eyes, “How could those trainees compare with us? Most of them are middle school and high school dropouts. There’s nothing to see besides their faces and manufactured personalities.”

“We are the future societal elites. Zhu Yang only selects the cream of the crop to join the sisterhood, anyone else should just scram. Moreover, you can’t just look good. If you don’t have a brain nor talents, then you should also stop wasting our time.”

“Furthermore, the boys we associate with are the talented male gods of their respective departments. It could be said that throughout the numerous schools within the city, our sorority is both on the peak of the social pyramid and are connected with the finest men. Otherwise, why do you think everyone envies us and wants to be part of our circle?”

Xie Yi has never seen such a perfect textbook definition of a clique. In his opinion, if Zhu Yang–with her strong leadership and personality–did not become a politician in the future, it would be a complete waste of her talent.

At this time, most of the guests had arrived, causing the hall to possess quite a lively atmosphere and pop music blaring from the speakers.

With Zhu Yang at the center, everyone laughed and had fun. It didn’t take long for the party to be in full swing.

Time flies when you’re having fun, and soon enough, it was midnight. Zhu Yang observed the surrounding people. They were drunk silly and would obey any command. It was almost time for the grand finale.

She stood up, turned off the music, and clapped her hands to instigate the next step of her plan, “That prank horror film said that on the seventh day she would crawl out of the TV to find someone to kill, just like Sadako. In that case, why don’t we do a countdown to welcome her? Just like counting down for new years.”

The crowd was quiet before someone suddenly shouted, “Come on guys. We came to help Zhu Yang catch the ghost! Let’s all give a warm welcome to the ghost empress!”

This person was already drunk to the point that they had no idea what they were talking about.

The crowd clambered around, knocking on the table, bench, and wine glasses while watching Zhu Yang slide the CD in and press the play button.

The clock in the living room just happened to be at exactly 12 o’ clock.

The seventh day has started.
