Scream Queen- Chapter 9

In fact, Zhu Yang had always felt quite fortunate the ghost she encountered was a knock off Sadako.

After the first ‘seven day’ reminder, she had been constantly provoking the ghost and the ghost had been angered to the point of vomiting blood, but still couldn’t do anything towards her.

This all proved an important rule that her life couldn’t be claimed before the seven days, or better yet, the ghost can not directly take her before the seven days are up.

At this moment, the second hand moved away from the twelve o’clock position, and as if that was a signal, Zhu Yang could feel something emitting a sense of relief.

The seven-day limit was up and the game rules could no longer provide the minimum safety for the prey.

Zhu Yang stared at the image of the empty house that appeared on screen. The corners of her mouth twitched in excitement of the upcoming hunt.

The video content was different this time. The image of the room lasted for a few minutes before a flash of snowflakes appeared, then an image of a well appeared.

Zhu Yang inwardly through the copycat was pretty thorough with their plagiarism, and according to her dreams, the ghost’s texture was indeed similar to a body that has been soaking in the water for a long time, all sticky and moist. Absolutely disgusting.

Zhu Yang held her breath. If the ghost came out at exactly twelve, then everything would go smoothly. She was afraid that the ghost wouldn’t show up, or wait till the crowd got sick of waiting around.

But then again, after several days of taunting and psychological abuse, even a normal person wouldn’t be able to bear it, much less a fierce ghost that is obsessed and hostile towards her. Naturally as soon as the ban was lifted, the ghost couldn’t wait for her death.

As the video zoomed into the well, a hand grasped on the edge of the well opening, followed by a face covered with black hair donning a white dress. Then a figure crawled out of the well with twisted limbs.

Step by step, the figure approached the screen and everyone held their breath in anticipation.

Once the figure reached the screen, it emerged from the otherside of the TV.

First, it reached out a pale hand with rotting fingernails, then the dripping wet hair stuck out from the screen. The female ghost seemed to be struggling to crawl out of the screen, and was moving outwards inch by inch.

Xie Yi had been catching ghosts for many years and had visited countless haunted houses, but this was his first time witnessing a ghost’s entrance scene.

He felt that Zhu Yang was a bit too overconfident. The whole place had a quiet and eerie atmosphere. He speculated that in the next second, those drunks would panic and run away screaming.

Sure enough, when he looked around, everyone’s drunken daze showed a surprised expression.

However, a voice broke through the silence. It was Zhu Yang.

She had an animated smile on, “Is there really a ghost crawling out? Hurry, someone come and record it. This must be the coolest party ever.”

She shouted loudly, “What are y’all dazing around for? Can’t you see Miss Ghost Lady is struggling to get out? Boys go help her out. Other people let’s cheer them on!”

The drunken crowd buzzed with life as they received their instructions.

Girls immediately pulled out their phones while some of the stronger guys walked straight up to the TV and to pull the ghost. The rest gathered around watching.

There was a unified chant, “Let’s go! Let’s go! Let’s go!”

Xie Yi was willing to bet that the female ghost was originally brimming with murderous intentions. However, the current figure was all stiff and awkward.

The ghost shrank back slightly, giving off the illusion of wanting to climb back into the TV. Her actions made it easy to infer that she probably had severe social anxiety when she was alive.

Normally, when she killed people, all she needed to do was crawl out of the TV and claim her victim’s life. That process was a one-on-one battle too. Never had she seen such a large amount of people waiting for her.

However the situation was out of her control already. A few drunks, who didn’t wait for any further signal, yanked her out of the TV.

When she fell onto the ground, loud cheers erupted throughout the room.

A person excitedly commented, “I have a cousin who’s studying abroad in America, and she kept showing off to me, saying how the sorority groups there were more sophisticated and how initiation process and parties were more exciting and exotic. I’m going to send her this video tomorrow to prove her wrong.”

“Right right! Anyone can go to a few haunted houses, and visit some abandoned asylums, or claim to worship the devil with their comic book inspired magic circles. Let’s show them what a true ghost gathering looks like.”

“This is enough for me to brag about for an entire lifetime. Once I post it on the internet, it’ll definitely get me a few thousand fans.”

Everyone crowded around the female ghost as if she was just another novelty item to gawk at.

They rushed to pull out their phones to take pictures-

“Could you look at the camera? Oh, nevermind, your hair is covering your face. It wouldn’t make a difference.”

“Hey! Please stop hiding.” A girl complained, “If you hide behind me it’ll make my face look big. You know what’s the sorority’s first rule on photo taking? Never do small tricks to make another sister look bad. How could you stoop to such low actions as a ghost?”

Another person touched the ghost, muttering in amazement after confirming it was physically tangible, “I can actually touch it. I thought my fingers would just pass through.”

“How did this climb out of the TV?”

Then they looked down at their palm, which had a large piece of sticky moss, “Huh~, what’s this? So disgusting.”

“Hey, why do you smell like a rotting rat? Forget using perfume or cleaning up your appearance, when you come to other people’s parties, do you even shower first?”

Do those idiotic drunks even know what they’re doing? Or talking about? Once they sober up tomorrow morning and recall their actions, Xie Yi bets they’d be scared out of their mind.

Xie Yi stiffly watched out for the female ghost’s reaction, but noticed her cowering even more as more people talked about her.

The female ghost was regretting impulsively storming out when there were so many people around.

She currently had a physical body, and although she could finally strangle the b*tch in this body, she also lost the ability to melt away, like a shadow.

To be in a room filled with handsome men and gorgeous women was something she had never achieved in her lifetime, and she felt ashamed to even look at them.

Now that she’s been placed under the spotlight with everyone talking about her, she felt an unspeakable sense of embarrassment and shyness.

This malicious ghost was deathly afraid of receiving excessive attention and exposure, so her current position was similar to a deer caught in a headlight. Where would she find the will to find the b*tch to battle.

At the same time, a girl suddenly asked, “Oh, by the way, what if others don’t believe our photos and videos tomorrow?”

“In terms of visual effects, it looks like the special effects from a home video, not even remotely realistic as the ones from a movie.”

“Right, ah. If we post it, it’ll just lower our reputation.”

“No, are you all stupid? The pers- ah no, the ghost is here. Why wouldn’t they believe it? Just live broadcast it then.”

Xie Yi thought to himself, ‘Do these sitting ducks even have the guts to face the ghost once sober? Even if they dare to, then they’d have to break into Zhu Yang’s house.’

However, one can not use normal logic on these drunks.

Another person declared, “Then let’s initiate her as a member of the sorority.”

“Don’t sororities and fraternities these days have mascots? The most unique ones are still stupid dolls. No one used a real ghost as a mascot before.”

After hearing this proposal, everyone unanimously agreed and looked towards Zhu Yang for approval.

While all this was occuring, Zhu Yang was patiently sitting on the sofa watching the female ghost-

Although she couldn’t see the ghost’s eyes, from the body language, the ghost was obviously quite eager.

After experiencing so many confrontations, Zhu Yang had already figured out the vain and attention-hungry nature of the ghost.

Unceremoniously, she replied, “No.”

Huh? Xie Yi looked at Zhu Yang questioningly. He thought that she would have taken this opportunity to appease the ghost. Afterall, the situation was very positive, and the ghost wouldn’t be angry enough to do anything.

Sure enough, once the female ghost heard her answer, her eyes gleamed with viciousness.

Someone tried to persuade Zhu Yang, “Why not? This is a strange thing and is an opportunity for our sorority to become famous. As the leader, you have an obligation to help us succeed.”

Zhu Yang shrugged her shoulders, “That’s why, as the president, I must be responsible for the sorority. This thing will definitely pique temporary curiosity and attract attention. I am also glad that you could show off to other schools.”

“But you shouldn’t forget the minimum standards for joining our sorority. Just look at her, she doesn’t even meet the qualifications to enter the first round of selection. We are elegant and graceful ladies who don’t rely on those cheap tricks Internet celebrities use to get attention.”

“What if outsiders’ stopped paying attention to our individual excellence and talents, but instead their impression of us became ‘that sorority with a ghost mascot?’ How low on the social ladder would we have fallen? So, it’s okay to have an entertaining party, but don’t let it mess with your brain.”

The crowd, whose brains had been fully controlled by Zhu Yang, thought about it for a second and nodded. What she said made sense.

However, there were a few that were unwilling to let go of this golden opportunity, “Is it really impossible? Wasn’t there a legend that female ghosts could change forms? Why not change into a more normal appearance?”

Then they urged the ghost to change into something more normal, and as a result, she had an ordinary appearance.

As a ghost, she had a very eye-capturing appearance, but the form she had before her death was very plain, the sort that would not stand out in a crowd.

This change caused everyone to feel quite disappointed. Zhu Yang waved her hand dismissively, “Alright. Thank you for coming to my party. Now the photos are taken, videos recorded, there’s nothing for you to do anymore. Go back!”

The female ghost saw that the b*tch was treating her as a random person. She was here to kill her, but was humiliated and degraded to someone that could be bossed around.

Her hostility increased ten-fold. She twisted her neck, turning her head 360 degrees, and rushed towards Zhu Yang, screaming with her mouth opened wide.

Although her limbs were twisted in odd angles, she was not slow at all, and she reached Zhu Yang in an instant.

With a vicious bellow, she roared, “Go die!”

Zhu Yang was not expecting her to be so agile. But then, if the ghost didn’t have any fighting capacity, how would she face opponents like a strong young man who would also be fighting for his life?

However she was thoroughly prepared. Zhu Yang quickly moved aside and pulled out a taser.

Turning it on the highest power, Zhu Yang thrust it towards the ghost. She wasn’t sure whether physical attacks were effective on ghosts, but since Zhu LiNa mentioned it was a “game,” then the gamemasters wouldn’t have made it impossible for the players to fight back.

Additionally, the fact that ghosts are afraid of thunder and lightning was a widely accepted theory. If there was no real thunderstorm, then an electric shock should suffice.

Or perhaps it was the blessing Zhu Yang received online, but the electric shock was extremely effective. After being tazed, the female ghost collapsed on the floor convulsing.

Zhu Yang stood up from the sofa and scoffed condescendingly, “What I hate most are rude guests. I kindly asked you to leave, but you insisted on staying, then don’t blame me for being rude.”

She then pointed towards the twitching figure and said, “Throw her out.”

The same boys who pulled the ghost out of the TV asked blankly, “Where to?”

“Where do you guys think? Do you think it’s possible to throw her out? Even though she’s a ghost, she’s still a girl. We should still be concerned about her safety okay? What if she runs into some hooligan? Obviously we throw her back from where she came from.”

Then she pointed at the TV, “Push her back into the TV.”

“This- Can this really work?”

“We can try. Since she came out that way, then there shouldn’t be a problem going back right?”

The boys discussed amongst themselves, uncertain on what to do, but once the female ghost heard about Zhu Yang’s plan, her demeanor changed. Underneath her curtain of hair, she displayed a horrified expression.

She hurriedly tried to get up, but the boys already made their decision and grabbed onto her limbs, preparing to shove her back into the TV.

She thrashed desperately against their hold. She had a lot of strength, way more than an ordinary adult male, so the boys felt like their arms were going to break off from her movements.

This scene looked a bit off, but with the drunken atmosphere and obedient crowd, whose common sense and morality was dramatically lowered, everyone became more hostile.

Several people from the crowd started to chant again, and the boys became more aggressive.

Zhu Yang noticed the ghost’s actions and a malicious smile appeared on her face, “Oho~~, could it be, that you’re afraid of going back in?”

Her voice was not loud amidst the noise, but the female ghost heard it clearly and immediately stiffened. Something bad was going to happen.

The ghost listened to the b*tch utter a command to the human next to her, “Go and help. It’s all up to you now.”

Xie Yi had gone through many surprises that night, and now he had to submit to his fate.

The female ghost was about to fight back with her hands and feet, but what she didn’t expect was, as soon as Xie Yi touched her, she felt significantly weaker.

She had almost forgotten about that man the B*tch had brought back. The one with a natural resistance towards ghosts. Because of him, many of her plans were rendered ineffective.

She didn’t realize that this threat would increase immensely after receiving her physical form.

She let out a loud screech. During this time period, Xie Yi and the boys had successfully lifted her up.

Then, in the same way she came out, she was thrown back into the TV.

The visible and tangible entity miraculously phased into the TV smoothly.

As soon as the female ghost returned into the TV, loud, painful shrieks were heard from the screen. It was as if the world inside the TV could not accommodate her anymore.

The female ghost was in agony and attempted to crawl out. However, the moment she stuck her head out, she was held down by Xie Yi.

This time, it was only him holding her down with a hand on top of her head. She couldn’t move despite using her full strength.

No, she can’t go back. Since she crawled out of the screen, she must kill her victim. This was an indisputable rule she could not violate, just like the rule that prohibited her from physically harming her victims before the seven days were up.

She would die for a second time if those rules were broken. The second time would be more painful than when she gave up her life as a human.

The female ghost felt the pain intensify as she desperately tried to move.

Then she heard a voice flutter over her-

“Give up, the victor has been determined. You have already lost. It is the player who won. It was a complete victory.”

The female ghost looked up in distress. Through her hair curtain she say the same man that the b*tch brought back. However he did not have his former silly personality.

Instead he stared at her with an indifferent gaze and coldly announced the results of the game.

The female ghost finally realized, and felt the despair spread throughout her body. Her struggling movements gradually stopped and soon she lost her voice.
