I Shocked the World After Being Forced to Farm- Chapter 21

The manager was dumbfounded for a moment. After asking Yu Ci several more times, he finally accepted that Yu Ci, the young master of the Yu family, did not want a sports car or a monster truck, but rather a simple truck that could carry heavy loads.

The manager thought that he struck a jackpot with Yu Ci, so he was still reluctant to let this fat rabbit off. After a moment of silence, he tactfully replied that the dealership did not have any delivery-type trucks on hand at the moment, but he could go check nearby dealerships and report back to him.

Yu Ci wordlessly agreed.

He understood perfectly what the manager was trying to do, but it would be more efficient for someone else to look for a truck for him than going by himself. He handed over the task of buying the truck to the manager and confidently hung up the phone.

The manager was very efficient. He had picked out a truck the following  afternoon and was promptly  delivered over to Yu Ci’s place. After Yu Ci gave the truck a test drive, he sent the manager a big red envelope*. When the manager clicked open the envelope and looked at the amount, a smile erupted like fireworks on his face and remained there  for several hours. The staff at the car dealership saw his euphoric expression and sighed—

(T/N: sent over via WeChat)

Their manager had an explosive temper. He would yell at a worker over tiny mistakes. For him to have such a joyful expression was extremely rare.

Since he now owned a truck and everything in the wasteland was being projected onto a real farm, Yu Ci’s days became more stable, along with his backstory for his vegetables.

Once Yu Shi heard that the farm he had given to his younger brother started to operate normally, he immediately set aside his work to check things out. Unfortunately, when he got there, he was greeted with empty plots of land because Yu Ci had already harvested all the cucumbers and potatoes. When Yu Ci found out, he laughed and sent over a bag of cucumbers and potatoes before replanting them.

However, Yu Ci recently discovered a problem. His business had become more and more popular—with the support of his fellow schoolmates and his livestream fans—the vegetables generated from the two mus of land quickly sold out. The demand also exceeded the supply, leaving many fans bitterly crying—

Who knew that it would be so difficult to buy some potatoes these days.

Alas, they were too slow, and some people were simply ridiculous, ordering dozens of kilos of potatoes at once.

Yu Ci couldn’t do anything but run back into the wasteland and ask Fu Nian if he could unlock more land in advance. Unfortunately his proposal was immediately rejected by the bird. Fu Nian dangled the Coca-Cola flavored popsicles Yu Ci had brought the other day and said, “There’s only a little bit left in the experience bar til you level up. With the upgrade, you can unlock an extra mu of land, leaving you a total of four mus.”

“Wait… one to two, two to four… is the next one four to eight?”

Fu Nian nodded, “But the amount of money it costs is the same. So be prepared.”

Yu Ci: …..

Suddenly, life felt meaningless.

Others farm to make money, but he farms to lose money.

Maybe it was because Yu Ci’s expression was too depressing to look at, but Fu Nian laughed a couple of times, “Aiya, don’t be like that. Once you hit 20 mus, I’ll reward you with some treasures. If you sell one of them, you’ll be rich within minutes.”

This was the second time Fu Nian mentioned his so-called gifts. Before, Yu Ci didn’t give it any thought, but now his curiosity grew.

Looking back at the endless wasteland, a wave of motivation surged within Yu Ci.

Wasn’t it just planting some land and spending some money? Piece of cake.

As Yu Ci continued to think about his vegetables, the school forum and Weibo were in a frenzy, making unsuspecting students and netizens confused.

The reason for all the fuss was that a female celebrity named Li Yuan had posted two pictures onto Weibo. In the first photo, she was leaning against the sofa, hair tied back, and had thinly-sliced cucumber slices on her face. Her eyes were closed and she had on a relaxing expression. The second photo showed her standing in her bathroom, the cucumber slices were taken off to reveal a smooth, white face.

Li Yuan was well-known within the entertainment circle. She rose to popularity due to an historical drama and her family background and has maintained that popularity ever since. She had risen from an 18-line minor actress to becoming the nation’s goddess.

Any random advertisement Li Yuan posted on Weibo would generate hundreds of thousands of likes, comments, and reposts. Today’s Weibo post was the same.

In just half a day, the number of comments reached well over 200,000 and later approached the 500,000 mark.

Another reason for all the excitement was because of Li Yuan’s caption: Has anyone noticed how good my skin has been recently? For the past few weeks, I’ve been quite busy and could not rest well for quite some time. However, I’ve started to apply cucumber slices recently, and didn’t expect my skin to improve so much after only a week!”

Cucumbers are naturally rich in vitamin C and have a high moisture content, which is great for hydrating and lightening the skin. However, it’s benefits had been highly debated on the internet. In fact, many people had tried cucumber masks out of curiosity. But since  cucumber seeds had been genetically modified by science, its hydrating and lightening effects were severely diminished.

Furthermore , people would rather spend their hard earned money on face masks that can solve multiple issues.

This was the impression most people had on cucumber masks, until they saw Li Yuan’s Weibo post today.

“The appearance of JieJie’s* skin has really improved, is she serious about applying cucumber slices on her face?”

(T/N: The author used 姐姐–> sister. But it just sounded weird, so I’ll just use the pinyin instead.)

“There’s no filter on JieJie’s photos! No filters at all! OMG, her skin’s really amazing. My tall and slender pale beauty! JieJie please look at me ah!”

“Hadn’t cucumber face masks been discontinued and disproven twenty years ago? Is Li Yuan living in the past?”

“? ? ? ?”

“Was this skin really the result of cucumber masks? Somehow I find it hard to believe.”

“Thank you for the free entertainment.”

Li Yuan was a little angry when she saw the comments. To be honest, she didn’t believe in the effects of the cucumbers at first. There wasn’t any solid evidence behind their beautifying claims. However, that night, her younger brother dragged back dozens of kilograms of cucumbers and kept spouting that he was doing a good deed. She endured the desire to beat him up to teach him a lesson about wise spending and stared helplessly at the cucumbers.

With so many cucumbers, there was no way they could eat them all, and if they weren’t eaten, they’d just rot. What were they going to do with them?

Her brother calmly searched the internet for “how to quickly deplete your cucumber supply” and listed several uses for the cucumbers— one of them being a face mask. However, as a female celebrity, there was no way Li Yuan was going to carelessly put anything on her own face. If something bad happened, wouldn’t she become a laughingstock?

So her brother became the person who applied the cucumber mask to their face everyday.

The result was surprising. In just two days, her brother’s face became paler and more tender. When she pinched his cheeks, it felt like she could squeeze out moisture. Li Yuan was stunned by this outcome. She would have thought that this stinky brat had started to do skincare without alerting her if she hadn’t already known the only things he was putting on his face were the cucumbers.

Were the cucumbers that effective?

Li Yuan still needed to be careful, so she first tested it out on her hands. After making sure there were no adverse reactions, she began fiercely sticking the slices on her face. After a week, she held her face and almost jumped for joy.

Wanting to flaunt her happiness, Li Yuan excitedly went to share her experience to her friends and fans. However, she did not expect so many people to interrogate her. Li Yuan frowned, feeling a little offended, but explained, “It’s really all from the cucumbers. I haven’t used any skin care products for the past two days. Why would I lie?”

Her statement was logical and truthful.

The audience tethered between belief and disbelief  and finally chose the former. Cucumbers were cheap anyways. A few kilograms worth of cucumbers was the same price as a face mask. However, after a week of applying cucumbers, everyone stared at their rough and dull faces silently.

That same day, the debate over cucumbers’ beautifying effects quickly became a hot topic.

“It was all a lie.”

“I believed Li Yuan, and what were the results? My face is still like this.”

“Sob Sob. Comparing Li Yuan to my face, I just want to say something—Li Yuan you’re so cruel and heartless! You lied to me!”

“Whatever, time to take out my face masks.”

“Li Yuan, you liar!”

“Let’s talk Li Yuan, what skin care products did you use? Just say the brand and I’ll buy it. There is no need for any more lies.”

Seeing that the issue evolved into “Li Yuan is a liar,” Li Yuan and her agent panicked. The agent pulled Li Yuan aside and repeatedly asked her what skin products she used. However, Li Yuan insisted that she only used cucumbers during that time period. The most important thing was—

“I kept using cucumbers this week, but I felt that it wasn’t as effective as before.”

The agent tilted their head and asked weakly, “It won’t depend on the type of cucumber, right?”

As soon as the question was asked, both stared at each other in stunned silence.

Was it possible?

The agent hurriedly followed up, “Did you buy your cucumbers from the supermarket?”

Li Yuan nodded, “My assistant bought them from the nearby store.”

“What about your brother’s?”

Li Yuan carefully thought back to that chaotic night and finally answered, “Outside the entrance of the Imperial Capital University.”

The agent scratched their chin and mumbled to themself, “What? Yes, Imperial Capital University is a prestigious school, but would they have special cucumber variants? Give me your brother’s phone number and I’ll go investigate.”

Through this investigation, the agent unearthed something extraordinary.

Through Li Yuan’s brother, the agent learned about Yu Ci’s name and, under the brother’s suggestion, took a look at the university’s forum. What they found left them speechless.

Yu Ci’s cucumbers tasted better than any ordinary cucumber?

Apparently they were so delicious that the students were thinking and talking about it daily.

Later on, the agent stumbled on a few comments.

【Why are people on Weibo saying that the cucumbers weren’t effective? I used some slices and within a few days my face was soft and tender. The results were better than any skincare product I’ve used before!”】
